A New Video Game Has Millennial Bros Ecstatic With Nostalgia
Timothy Foster needed something to look forward to when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma last summer. The 35-year-old software developer, from upstate New York, knew he would have lots of time to kill while he recovered from his chemotherapy infusions, but what is there to do when you're laid up in bed all day? Yes, he had owned an NES and SNES in the '90s, but the last video game he had played in earnest was NCAA Football 14--a beloved 2013 college football simulator that was the final entry in a series that was discontinued following an arcane legal dispute between the powers that be in campus athletics and publisher EA Sports. But the landscape of college football has changed dramatically over the past few years, following a windfall of suddenly legal name, image, and likeness deals that freed up players to make money from outside sources. All this ultimately cleared a path for a revival of the one video game Foster ever truly loved.

Dodgeball gets futuristic twist in new video game 'Knockout City' available in May

'NBA 2K20,' 'Gears 5,' 'Borderlands 3' and 'Zelda' make for big month of new video games
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening: Nintendo has reimagined this iconic 1991 Game Boy title for Nintendo Switch owners in 2019. It's no secret many of the year's biggest video games debut around the holidays – to capitalize on the all-important gift-giving season, perhaps – but you might be surprised what's new this fall. In fact, September is shaping up to be an unusually big month with a handful of big-name releases bowing this month – a pair of sequels in beloved sci-fi action series, the latest in a best-selling basketball franchise, and the remake of a Nintendo Game Boy classic. While there are other basketball simulation games, NBA's 2K basketball franchise is the best of the best. Landing next week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, "NBA 2K20" (2K/Take-Two Interactive; $59.99, rated Everyone for all ages) is the latest in the celebrated basketball simulation series, which fuses several solo and multiplayer game modes with near-photorealistic graphics.
'SolSeraph' review: Is new video game a worthy second act for 'ActRaiser' ?
'SolSeraph' is an'ActRaiser' homage for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One. Back when flannel-wearing grunge rockers were lighting up the music scene, I remember browsing through the video game section at Video Maniacs – a local Blockbuster competitor in Reno, Nev. At the time, I had already played the heck out of the pack-in game that came with my Super Nintendo, "Super Mario World," as well as "Contra III: The Alien Wars," which I bought on my broke-college student budget. Unable to afford another game, I decided to go the rental route and, after having tried every interesting-looking SNES game at the rental store, I finally decided to give "ActRaiser" a shot. Honestly, the package art wasn't that impressive, which was the reason I didn't rent it right away.
